This doctoral-level program prepares professional psychologists through a scientist-practitioner approach. The curriculum fulfills all registration requirements for the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Initially accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association in 2012, the program received renewed accreditation in 2022, valid through 2026-2027 (Accreditation Office, CPA, 141 Laurier Avenue West, Suite 712, Ottawa, Ontario, K1P 5J3; accreditationofficecpa.ca).
Coursework encompasses essential clinical subjects such as psychopathology, psychological assessment, therapeutic interventions, culturally-sensitive practice, supervision, consultation, and professional ethics, alongside research methodology, statistics, and other fundamental psychology topics.
Students gain hands-on experience through clinical practicum placements, which may occur at our Psychology Training Clinic or various external settings including hospitals, mental health facilities, university counseling centers, educational institutions, and private practices.
The MA component requires completion of at least 11 courses (including one clinical practicum) and a thesis within two years.
For the PhD, students must complete eight courses (including two practica), a dissertation, comprehensive breadth requirements, and a full-time clinical internship during their final year. The PhD program typically takes four years post-MA, including the internship year.
