Mathematics serves as an invaluable tool for tackling complex problems and represents a profoundly imaginative discipline that sheds light on varied phenomena, from the workings of the human nervous system to biological evolution and financial markets. You'll develop skills to recognize patterns through logical reasoning, rigorous principles, and creative thinking, culminating in a thesis project.
Optional paid co-op opportunities and specialized tracks in Computer Science and Economics provide additional preparation, equipping you with analytical skills and expertise to address challenges across multiple domains.
For students fascinated by the intersection of mathematics and computer science, we provide a Computer Science Option allowing deeper exploration of that field. Similarly, those interested in mathematical economics can pursue an Economics Option.
Students not selecting these specialized paths will follow the Regular program. Since Fall 2013, the updated curriculum permits enrollment in up to 10 Open Elective courses, enabling students to pursue Minors in diverse fields including sciences (Accounting, Biology, Chemistry, Finance, Physics) or humanities (French, Politics, Law, News Studies), though Minors remain optional. Alongside these electives, students complete six advanced mathematics courses in addition to their core math requirements.
