Psychology examines thoughts, emotions, and actions through scientific methods. Learners discover how psychological principles apply to nearly all facets of human existence. The program cultivates analytical reasoning abilities alongside expertise in evaluating and understanding information. Numerous alumni pursue opportunities in social services, corporate environments, government roles, and teaching. Others advance to postgraduate studies. This discipline explores cognitive processes, emotional states, observable behaviors, sensory interpretations, biological reactions, and various conduct patterns in both humans and animals. Functioning as both an academic field and practical vocation, psychology connects with nearly all dimensions of human experience. Scientific investigations in psychology contribute significantly to comprehending and anticipating human conduct. In therapeutic applications, the field aims to enhance individuals' productivity and life satisfaction.
Admission to each major program may have specific requirements.
Recommended: Foundations of Mathematics 11 or higher is strongly recommended for students pursuing Education or a major in Geography and Environmental Studies, Sociology or Psychology.
All students in the psychology major are required to complete PSYC 1110, 1210, 2100, 2110 and 2040.
Students intending to major in psychology must see both a Psychology Major Advisor and a BA Program Advisor. The Major Advisor will assist each student in selecting courses that will satisfy the major program requirements. The BA Advisor will then ensure that all additional BA degree requirements are met.
English Language Proficiency Requirements: TOEFL iBT - 88+ with no section below 20; TOEFL paper-based - 570+ TWE 4.5+; TOEFL Computer-Based - 230+ Essay 4.5+; IELTS - 6.5+ with no bands below 6.0; MELAB - 81+; CanTEST - 4.5+ with no component score below 4.0; CAEL - Overall 70+ No subtest below 60.
Deadlines for students of pre-assessment eligible nationalities (Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Iran and Nigeria): Fall: February 15, 2024. Deadlines for students of all other nationalities: Fall: March 1, 2024; Winter 2025: September 1, 2024.
