This one-year (three-semester) program equips students with specialized skills to work in recreation, health, education, and/or social service systems supporting individuals with diverse abilities. Graduates will gain expertise in conducting standardized client assessments, designing and evaluating both group and individualized programs, and employing various facilitation techniques to help individuals engage in meaningful recreational activities that promote health, enhance functional capabilities, and improve quality of life. The curriculum is founded on the principle that play, recreation, and leisure offer universal benefits. Students will learn to modify recreation activities for inclusive participation and utilize recreation as a therapeutic approach to enhance, maintain, or restore health and wellness.
Our program primarily features in-person classes, supplemented by some online courses, offering flexibility for working professionals seeking to advance their qualifications.
A distinctive aspect of our program is the Small Business Development course, which addresses growing opportunities in private practice by teaching financial literacy, private practice documentation, relevant business regulations, business planning, and other essential skills.
