For those pursuing a career in the expanding and specialized domain of applied behavior analysis, the Behavioral Science program offers ideal training. For more than 40 years, this program has equipped students to provide direct support to diverse client groups across multiple human service sectors. The curriculum focuses on creating and executing behavioral strategies to help clients acquire new abilities or address problematic behaviors.
Prospective students should possess a genuine passion for assisting individuals with complex behavioral, cognitive, emotional, or psychological needs. They must also be willing to work with populations exhibiting disruptive behaviors or intellectual disabilities. Participants should be ready to undertake practical placements involving any of the client groups mentioned in the career opportunities section. Our program provides specialized training in therapeutic approaches applicable to various challenges, rather than focusing on a single client demographic.
Note that this is not a general counseling or psychology program. Ideal candidates will have a specific interest in applied behavior analysis.
Students in our program develop skills to:
Help children regulate their behavior and acquire practical skills;
Enable individuals with intellectual disabilities to utilize community services, gain new competencies, and achieve greater autonomy;
Guide at-risk youth in enhancing social abilities, controlling problematic behaviors, and reaching therapeutic objectives;
Aid those with mental health conditions in stress reduction, self-regulation development, and daily task organization;
Support clients with brain injuries in learning practical and independent living skills;
Work with incarcerated individuals to foster constructive behaviors and skills;
Identify addiction patterns and implement prevention strategies and recovery management techniques.
