StFX provides intensive major and honors programs for dedicated philosophy students, with graduates successfully entering top-tier postgraduate institutions worldwide. The department also welcomes students from other fields to enrich their studies with philosophical perspectives. The curriculum covers all major philosophical domains, with particular emphasis on historical developments.
For honors philosophy students:
(a) Typically requires 18 credits in Philosophy History, distributed across ancient (3 credits), medieval (3 credits), modern (3 credits), and contemporary periods (PHIL 367, 381, or 391)
(b) Minimum 3 credits in logic/critical thinking (PHIL 251 or 342), with 6 credits recommended
(c) 3 credits in ethical theory (PHIL 331)
