StFX provides comprehensive major and honors programs for dedicated philosophy students, with graduates successfully entering top global postgraduate institutions. The department also welcomes students from other fields to enhance their studies with philosophical perspectives. The curriculum covers all major philosophical domains with particular emphasis on historical developments.
Program requirements typically include: 18 credits in Philosophy History (with minimum 3 credits each in ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary periods through courses like PHIL 367, 381, or 391).
(b) At least 3 credits in logic/critical thinking (PHIL 251 or 342), though 6 credits are preferred.
(c) 3 credits in ethical theory (PHIL 331).
(d) Typically 33 upper-level credits (300-400 level courses).
