As a P-1 Licensee registered with the Law Society of Ontario, Paralegals offer legal services within their authorized practice areas. They can advocate for clients in provincial offenses court, handling cases like traffic violations, municipal by-law disputes, liquor licensing issues, workplace safety concerns, and small claims court civil matters. Paralegals are also permitted to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice for minor criminal charges. Their representation extends to various administrative tribunals including the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, Human Rights Commission, and Landlord and Tenant Board, among others.
Program Features
The curriculum incorporates office simulation exercises along with practice hearings and mock trials.
Alongside a 140-hour internship, students can participate in St Clair College's Forms Completion Clinic, acquiring hands-on client interaction experience while providing community assistance.
This Paralegal Program meets accreditation criteria set by the Law Society of Upper Canada's Paralegal Education Program Accreditation Policy (PEPA).
Professional Pathways
Graduates may pursue careers as independent practitioners, join legal firms, corporate legal divisions, government bodies, or administrative tribunals.
