Dental hygiene involves "evaluating teeth and surrounding tissues, delivering preventive and therapeutic treatments, and performing restorative and orthodontic procedures" (DHA, 1991). The program equips students to deliver oral healthcare across diverse settings. Graduates will practice within the professional boundaries defined by the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario's regulations.
Career Paths
While many dental hygienists work in private dental offices, increasing numbers are establishing independent practices or pursuing roles in public health education, hospital settings, research, or dental product innovation and marketing.
