The Department of Physics' MSc program enables students to engage in cutting-edge physics research. Participants will explore both theoretical and experimental approaches to fundamental and applied physics, with options for interdisciplinary studies. This program blends academic coursework with thesis research, equipping graduates for doctoral studies or professional physics careers. The standard completion time is six terms (two years).
The Master's curriculum includes advanced courses and research culminating in a thesis. After one year at SFU, Master's candidates may transition to the PhD program with their committee's approval. Applicants holding relevant advanced degrees may qualify for direct PhD program admission.
A bachelor's degree in physics or a related subject, including advanced undergraduate coursework in quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, and statistical mechanics is required.
