Tailored for teachers supporting English as an Additional Language students, this program helps participants deepen their understanding of theoretical frameworks, research methodologies, and practical approaches in EAL instruction. It serves educators working with multilingual learners across diverse educational environments, both locally and globally. The curriculum explores worldwide perspectives on English as an International Language (EIL) while placing particular emphasis on ESL teaching scenarios.
Since this program targets practicing educators, it does not include Fieldwork course components.

Qualification Requirements

A bachelor's degree from Simon Fraser University or its equivalent with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0/4.33 (B), or a grade point average of at least 3.33/4.33 (B+) based on the last 60 units of undergraduate/graduate courses will normally be required for admission.
An Undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as BEd/BA with Education or Linguistics (majors/minors) with relevant education and/or linguistics courses such as upper level Education course(s) in language arts, reading or language acquisition, Linguistics course(s) in syntax, phonology, or semantics.
IELTS - Overall band score of 7.0 of the academic (NOT general) test with a minimum of 6.5 in each section. TOEFL IBT - 93, with a minimum score of 20 in each category. For the paper-based TOEFL test, the University normally requires a score of 580, with TWE 5. Pearson Academic (PTE) - Overall 65 minimum 60 in all of their sections.
