SIAT provides Master of Arts, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy programs. Additionally, we feature a Graduate Certificate Program in Visual Analytics, available as a supplementary qualification for enrolled SFU graduate students.
For our Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Science (MSc) candidates, two completion pathways are available: the thesis-based route involving 15 coursework credits plus a research thesis, or the project-based alternative requiring 24 coursework credits along with a project. Applicants must select their preferred option during the application process.
The Master of Arts (MA) represents one of three degree options at SIAT, focusing on art, design, media, and information technology with specialized emphasis on interactive digital technologies and media applications across fields such as art, design, education, business, cognitive science, performing arts, social sciences, and cultural studies. This program caters to students interested in exploring interactive technologies and examining their design implications within human-centered frameworks. The methodological foundations primarily originate from social sciences, humanities, and artistic research traditions.
Program objectives include: investigating technology design, creation, and management processes; employing research methodologies that foster interdisciplinary cooperation and technological innovation; and implementing emerging technologies in societal and industrial contexts, especially within creative domains of art, design, and media.
