Qualification Requirements
A Bachelor's degree from SFU or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
A Cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0/4.33 (B), or a grade point average of at least 3.33/4.33 (B plus) based on the last 60 units of undergraduate courses. Any graduate work is also considered. Individual graduate programs may set a higher admission grade point average.
Proposed Program of Study:
Outline your proposed program of study (one single-spaced page for MA applicants, two pages for PhD applicants). Identify the question you wish to address, its historical, historiographical, and methodological significance, and the sources you will use for research.
Please also indicate which faculty members in the Department of History might supervise
your work. The Department uses this information to assess your ability to frame and
research a historical question, and to assess the Department's ability to support your
project.
Academic Writing Sample:
A sample of your written work (in English), preferably a senior paper or Master's thesis.
Copy of your CV
Unofficial transcripts for all post-secondary institutions you have attended.
Official transcripts only need to be submitted after an offer of admission has been made. This page contains the relevant instructions. Please read them carefully.
Three academic references. Reference letters in a language other than English must be submitted with an official English translation.
Official copy of your TOEFL or IELTS results. *Only required if primary language of instruction was not in English and may be submitted directly to department. Please submit supporting documents as per the online application instructions.
IELTS - Overall band score of 7.0 of the academic (NOT general) test with a minimum of 6.5 in each section. TOEFL IBT - 93, with a minimum score of 20 in each category. For the paper-based TOEFL test, the University normally requires a score of 580, with TWE 5. Pearson Academic (PTE) - Overall 65 minimum 60 in all of their sections.
