Qualification Requirements
A Bachelor's degree from SFU or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
The usual prerequisite for admission into the MA Program is a Bachelor's degree in economics from a recognized institution. The minimum cumulative grade point average required for admission is 3.0.
Qualified students with a Master's degree in another discipline may also be admitted.
Copies of transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended. Only applicants admitted into the graduate program will be required to forward official transcripts to the Graduate Studies office.
Applicants who have completed or are currently completing their post-secondary studies at an institution outside of Canada are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test. A copy of unofficial GRE scores is required (the application checklist usually updates later when official scores have been received). There is no formal minimum score requirement. GMAT cannot be substituted for the GRE. Please send the official test results to Simon Fraser University using Institution Code 0999 and Department Code 1801.
IELTS - The University minimum requirements for English proficiency is an overall band score of 7.0 of the academic (NOT general) test with a minimum of 6.5 in each section.
TOEFL - The University minimum requirement for the internet-based exam is a total score of 93, with a minimum score of 20 in each category. For the paper-based TOEFL test, the University normally requires a score of 580, with TWE 5. Pearson Academic (PTE) - Overall 65 minimum 60 in all of their sections.
