SFU's Archaeology Department combines top-tier research faculty with a collaborative environment.
At the master's level, students can pursue a traditional Master of Arts (MA) in Archaeology. This program involves thesis submission and typically spans six terms (2 years), with a maximum allowance of nine terms (3 years). Completion requires 33 units minimum.
Specialization options include archaeometry, art studies, ceramic analysis, cultural resource management, ethnoarchaeology, forensic anthropology, geoarchaeology, historical archaeology, lithic analysis, palaeoanthropology, palaeoethnobotany, skeletal biology, and zooarchaeology.
Beyond developing specialized research skills, students will achieve broad disciplinary comprehension while working toward proficiency in world prehistory, physical anthropology, and archaeological theory/methods. Depending on enrollment numbers, customized individual or group courses may supplement standard course offerings.
