Learning English means exploring how language shapes our world and perceptions. Our program brings you into classrooms with faculty who have earned more teaching honors than any other SFU department, while also producing an exceptional volume of academic publications, award-winning literature, and creative works. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences provides English studies through major and minor options, plus certificates in creative writing and writing/rhetoric, available initially at our Surrey campus. History examines the grand narrative of human transformation across all aspects of life - from governance to culture, belief systems to social evolution. This discipline equips you to understand our ever-changing world. The History program offers major and minor degrees, along with specialized certificates in Hellenic Studies and Labour Studies, also starting at Surrey campus. Transfer students with 18 lower-division English credits fulfill the preliminary requirements for an English major and should consult the department advisor. Prospective English majors are encouraged to formally declare their intention to the undergraduate advisor after completing all foundational coursework.
