Nearly 90% of Social Service Worker (SSW) program graduates secure steady, fulfilling employment. Industry projections indicate a worker shortage in this field over the next five years.
Field placements expose students to diverse programs serving populations including those experiencing poverty, youth, seniors, individuals with addiction or mental health challenges, behavioral issues, or other barriers to thriving in today's complex world.
Selkirk College's Admission Requirements:
Have graduated from a BC Senior Secondary School or equivalent, or
Be 19 years of age or over at the time of application, or
Be under 19 years of age but have a written recommendation from your Secondary School Principal
Social Service Worker Program Academic Requirements
Completion of English Studies 12 or equivalent with a minimum of 60% or higher or minimum of LPI level 4
Applicants who have previously completed a related certificate and are returning for entry into the second year of a Human Services Diploma are required to provide evidence of completion of a certificate in ECCE, EACSW, SSW or equivalent within the last five years. Acceptance for those who graduated prior to five years will be based on evidence of work in the human service field and/or professional development.
Submission of a TOEFL score of IBT 80 or better; or
Submission of an IELTS score of 6.0 with no individual band less than 5.5 or better; or
Submission of an acceptable score on the Language Proficiency Index score of 4 or better.
