This program builds on a solid business foundation, equipping students with an in-depth knowledge of the sports industry to prepare them for management roles in sports business. Core business administration principles are covered through classes in communications, accounting, marketing, technology, research, and human resources. The curriculum explores the framework and evolving nature of Canada's sports sector, including governance models, policies, coaching certifications, event planning, and sports sponsorship. The Sports Management program expands the offerings within Sault College's School of Business. Since the first semester shares coursework with other Business Diploma programs and the Business Fundamentals Certificate, students have the flexibility to switch programs after completing their initial term.
The Sports Administration program corresponds to National Occupation Code (NOC) 0513, which covers Recreation, Sports and Fitness Program and Service Directors. According to Statistics Canada, professionals under NOC 0513 oversee, coordinate, and assess operations for comprehensive recreation, sports, and fitness programs, as well as national/provincial sports organizations and professional teams. These roles are found in municipal governments, community and private recreation centers, sports governing bodies, and professional athletic organizations.
