Economists play a pivotal role in shaping government policies, ranging from social initiatives to economic growth strategies. In corporate settings, they analyze market trends for product launches, examine merger consequences, and review taxation frameworks. Those drawn to fields like human resources, environmental studies, global development, financial markets, or monetary systems may find an Economics degree particularly rewarding.
Saint Mary's University offers Economics as either a major or honors program within both Commerce and Arts undergraduate degrees. The department provides peer-led tutoring services accessible to all Economics students year-round. Cooperative education placements are available with government bodies and financial organizations. Additionally, Economics students can participate in global exchange programs across Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa.
Recent Economics students have collaborated with faculty as teaching assistants, secured co-op positions, contributed to the Business Development Centre, volunteered at the International Centre, and assisted in organizing Saint Mary's summer conference on Experimental and Behavioural Economics.
