The Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma blends hands-on and conceptual engineering methods to prepare students for careers in growing industries requiring engineering design, physical system planning, manufacturing technologies, robotic automation, component testing, and system reliability. Graduates will use advanced problem-solving abilities to conceptualize, design, develop, construct, assess, improve, and refine mechanical products and processes. The program emphasizes lifelong learning and technological adaptability as core competencies. Through both practical labs and theoretical studies, students will apply fundamental mechanical engineering concepts including engineering mathematics, solid mechanics, thermal-fluid sciences, and kinematics. Eligibility for admission to the Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma program at Red Deer Polytechnic requires applicants to meet minimum academic requirements. Qualified applicants who meet all minimum requirements will be offered admission on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Academic Requirements  

Students applying to Mechanical Engineering Technologist must have a minimum of 65% in:    

  • ¬†ELA 30-1 or ELA 30-2, or equivalent¬†

A minimum of 60% in:    

  • MATH 30-1 or 75% in MATH 30-2, or equivalent
  • SCIE 30 or PHYS 30, or equivalent¬†

OR  

Completion of at least one semester (or five courses) of an engineering technology or technologist diploma, or an engineering degree program within five years prior to application, from an accredited institution. 

English Language Proficiency

  • IELTS Academic - 6.5 with at least 5.5 on each band score
  • TOEFL - 83 iBT 557 PBT
  • CAEL - 60 with at least 55 on each band score
  • MET - 61 with at least 58 on each band score
  • PTE ‚Äì 59 with at least 56 on each band score
  • Duolingo English Test - 115-125.
