Professional engineers utilize scientific and mathematical concepts to address practical challenges and develop innovative solutions. This discipline demands creativity, technical expertise, and strong analytical abilities. As a profession, engineering offers diverse opportunities that benefit all sectors of society. This program is delivered in collaboration with the University of Alberta, mirroring their first-year Engineering curriculum for seamless transfer. Your initial year at RDP will establish core competencies in mathematics, computing, and sciences, which you'll apply in courses like Engineering Statics, Dynamics, and Design. Experiential Learning OptionsThe availability of work-integrated learning experiences varies based on your chosen specialization. Discover the range of hands-on learning possibilities at Red Deer Polytechnic through the Career Education and Experience Development Centre. Continuing EducationAll courses in this program fully transfer to the University of Alberta, with some first-year classes also eligible for transfer to the University of Calgary and other institutions beyond Alberta (out-of-province transfers require direct consultation with the receiving institution). Students must select their transfer university upon program entry. Those planning to attend the University of Alberta must complete the entire first year within one academic year. Admission requirements for specific programs will often refer to Alberta Grade 12 course groups. If you completed your studies outside of Alberta, please visit our International Course Equivalencies webpage for equivalencies from a variety of countries around the world.
Eligibility for admission to the Engineering program at Red Deer Polytechnic requires applicants to meet minimum academic requirements. Qualified applicants who meet all minimum requirements will be offered admission on a first-come, first-served basis.
Academic Requirements

Due to the high level of demand, the University of Alberta (U of A) gives priority to applicants who have no previous post-secondary university transfer credit prior to completing first-year engineering courses. If, for example, you have completed all or a portion of one year in another university transfer program (typically science) you will be assessed a GPA penalty for not having a full load of engineering courses making program transfer to the U of A difficult. Please contact Advising for further information or contact the U of A directly.
