The Department of Physics at Queen's University ranks among Canada's top research institutions for Physics, Engineering Physics, and Astronomy. Our distinguished faculty comprises internationally renowned physicists specializing in groundbreaking theoretical, applied, and experimental physics research. Both staff and students conduct studies on campus and at premier global facilities, including major astronomical observatories like Gemini and SNO, along with the High Performance Computing Virtual Lab (Centre for Advanced Computing). Astrophysics and Astronomy students gain hands-on experience at world-class observatories in locations such as Chile, Hawaii, and Australia. Those in experimental particle astrophysics perform cutting-edge research at SNOLAB, the renowned underground facility near Sudbury, Ontario.
Students must have an honours bachelor degree in Science, Engineering or Applied Science.
English language requirements
Applicants must have TOEFL Internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT): The minimum overall score is 88, made up of the minimum scores in each component test as follows: Writing test: 24/30; Speaking test: 22/30; Reading test: 22/30; Listening test: 20/30; MELAB: 80 (minimum overall score); IELTS: 7 (minimum score, academic module); PTE Academic: 65 (minimum overall score).
