Geotechnical Engineering applies principles of soil and rock mechanics along with engineering geology to address challenges in foundation design, slope stability, excavations, dam construction, tunneling, and various Civil, Mining, and Environmental engineering projects concerning ground mechanics and subsurface water behavior. Current research at the GeoEngineering Centre focuses on geosynthetics, durability of landfill liners, foundation systems (both shallow and deep), underground structures like tunnels and excavations, buried infrastructure including pipes and culverts, as well as seismic geotechnical engineering.
