The sculpture program offers training in both classic and modern techniques, employing specialized tools alongside manual methods. Learners master diverse skills including stone carving, metal welding, fabric arts, woodworking, mold creation, casting, and clay modeling.
The six-week intermediate curriculum introduces fundamental sculptural principles through personal research, technique demonstrations, reading discussions, practical exercises, and project work in a cooperative studio setting. Participants also cultivate analytical critique abilities, time organization strategies, professional artistic presentation standards, and innovative solution-finding methods. First and second-year instruction occurs in a spacious shared studio with communal work areas and storage.
During the twelve-week third-year program, students concentrate on refining their personal artistic vision while enhancing technical proficiency. They produce three-dimensional works engaging with modern art concepts, incorporating advanced sculptural methods with temporal media like video and audio for both standalone pieces and installations. Advanced technical workshops cover sophisticated equipment operation. Each project includes complementary research into social, cultural, historical, or theoretical contexts. This upper-level course features private studio spaces and a dedicated workshop area.
