The Early Childhood Education program equips students to support young children across diverse inclusive settings. Participants will develop the expertise, competencies, and professional approach needed to collaborate with children, families, and communities in creating enriched programs for daycares, preschools, infant/toddler centers, and other early development initiatives. Completing the four-semester Diploma in Early Childhood Education (including the intercession practicum) meets the certification standards set by the Early Childhood Registrar, Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), and Community Care Facilities Licensing Branch (CCFB) for practicing as an Early Childhood Educator, Special Needs Educator, or Infant/Toddler Educator. Diploma graduates may qualify for block transfer credits toward degree programs. For details on post-diploma options, reach out to the Department of Early Childhood Education. Those completing just the first three semesters may earn a Certificate in Early Childhood Education, fulfilling the training requirements for practicing as an Early Childhood Educator.
Practicum Requirements: Field placements form a crucial component of health and social services training. Sites are located across and occasionally beyond the Okanagan Valley. Students must provide their own transportation to practicum locations, typically requiring a driver's license and access to a dependable vehicle. All travel costs are the student's responsibility.
