Northwestern Polytechnic provides students with the opportunity to embark on a Nursing career through the University of Alberta Collaborative Baccalaureate Nursing Program, a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree. This program equips graduates to become licensed Registered Nurses.
While all coursework for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing can be completed at Northwestern Polytechnic, students must participate in at least one clinical placement beyond Grande Prairie. Clinical rotations may include evening, overnight, and weekend shifts. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to practicum sites and covering associated travel and accommodation expenses. Some mandatory placements may be located 150 kilometers or further from Grande Prairie.
The nursing field demands specific personal attributes. Prospective students should demonstrate compassion while valuing each patient's, client's, and family member's dignity and individuality. The program develops knowledge and skills through diverse teaching approaches, combining structured instruction with self-directed learning. Practical training occurs in nursing labs and various healthcare settings throughout the region.
