This program combines Foundation Trades Training with Level 1 Apprenticeship instruction. It equips students with fundamental knowledge, practical skills, and technical expertise that employers value in entry-level electricians. The curriculum features extensive hands-on activities mirroring real workplace scenarios, culminating in a 60-hour practicum.
Career Opportunities
Electricians design, install, maintain, and repair electrical systems that power lighting, heating, communication networks, and electricity in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. As technology evolves, the profession now demands expertise in installing diverse wiring systems including data, audio, video, signaling, and communication cables. Modern electrical control systems have grown increasingly sophisticated, often incorporating solid-state or computerized components, requiring electricians to possess advanced understanding of electronic systems.
Provide British Columbia secondary school transcripts or equivalent indicating successful completion of Grade 11 level that includes:
Grade 11 English, or Career and College Preparation ENGL040 (Advanced/Grade 11);
Grade 11 Math (Pre-Calculus 11), or Career and College Preparation MATH040 (Advanced/Grade 11); and
Grade 11 Physics (or equivalent), all with 67 per cent (C+) or higher.
OR
ESTR 047 (Advanced-Level Essential Skills for Trades) with 67% or higher;
OR
Complete the following sections of the Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT):
Reading Comprehension: 12.0 grade equivalent or higher
Number Operations: 12.0 grade equivalent or higher
Problem Solving: 12.0 grade equivalent or higher
Mechanical Reasoning: 51/70 (6th Stanine) or higher
Trades Math Assessment: 70 per cent or higher
Dual Credit
Grade 11 level completion that includes Grade 11 English, Grade 11 Math (Pre-Calculus), and Grade 11 Physics (or equivalent), all with 67 per cent (C+) or higher.
