Power engineers ensure our electrical systems function smoothly, maintaining power for homes and industries. These specialists oversee electricity generation, distribution, and utilization, playing a crucial role in modern infrastructure since nearly every sector relies on electrical power.
This intensive 2-year diploma covers thermodynamics, electrical systems, electronics, and HVAC principles. Students develop expertise in mechanical drafting, technical schematics, applied mathematics, and physics. Graduates emerge with the qualifications for provincial certification and a promising career as power engineering technologists. The curriculum prepares students for 4th Class, 3rd Class, and 2nd Class - Part A ABSA certification through balanced theoretical and hands-on instruction.
The program emphasizes workplace safety and operational efficiency. Classroom instruction covers core principles including boiler systems, electrical instrumentation, safety protocols, regulatory standards, thermodynamics, and applied physics.
The Plant Practicum (POWT2395) offers valuable industry exposure. Eligible students (having passed all Level 1 coursework and ABSA 4th Class A & B examinations) gain hands-on experience at industrial facilities, observing various power engineering operations.
