Rooted in today's post-modern world and valuing diverse viewpoints, this Ph.D. in Education (Educational Sustainability) equips professionals from education, healthcare, social services, justice systems, and leadership roles with sustainable teaching approaches for modern times. Sustainable practice here refers to interdisciplinary research and instruction that transcends cultural and national boundaries, fostering global awareness where personal growth involves understanding one's connection to others, nature, and human-made systems. Through Educational Sustainability, participants examine pressing societal issues while recognizing our interconnected world. The program aims to develop leaders capable of addressing current and future challenges, empowering graduates to transform traditional educational models by establishing dynamic learning spaces—both physical and digital—that prioritize engaged learning and inclusive viewpoints. This degree serves school educators and professionals across fields, cultivating thoughtful community members who analyze issues rigorously and take personal accountability for societal progress.
The applicant must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent, as recognized by Nipissing University, in an appropriate discipline, with a minimum A- standing. Preference will be given to applicants whose master’s degree included an independent research component such as a thesis or major research paper.
The following are the minimum ELP requirements for admission to the School of Graduate Studies; in addition, each program will have minimum language requirements specific to the program:
TOEFL iBT, with a minimum overall score of 93, and a minimum score of 20 in reading and listening and a minimum score of 22 in speaking and writing, or
IELTS, with an overall score of no less than 6.5 and a minimum of 6.5 in reading, listening and speaking and a minimum score of 6.0 in writing, or
Pearson Test (PTE Academic), with a minimum overall score of 63 with a minimum score of 60 in each subsection
