Nipissing's Psychology program offers diverse opportunities, from studying brain tissue to exploring psychotherapy. With award-winning, funded professors who actively involve undergraduates in their research labs, students gain hands-on experience that enhances their coursework and prepares them for careers or advanced studies. The university's smaller size creates more chances for student involvement without compromising course selection. The Psychology Department provides comprehensive courses across all key areas of the field. At Nipissing, psychology students can opt for either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) program. The distinction lies in elective choices: BA students select from humanities and social sciences (such as English, Philosophy, or Sociology), while BSc students focus on science electives (including Biology, Chemistry, or Physics). The BSc pathway allows students to pursue a Neuroscience Certificate by combining specific courses with an Honours thesis in neuroscience. The BA program features a Certificate in Early Intensive Behaviour Intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Concurrent Education students who finish their Nipissing Honours degree (including required Concurrent Education courses) by April can progress directly into the Bachelor of Education program's professional years (Years 5 and 6). All necessary courses for the Honours degree and teachable subjects must be completed by May 1 of the transition year.
