The GESJ program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum covering Culture and Criticism, Power and Inequality, and Human Rights and Social Justice. It examines how race, class, colonialism, ability, sex, and gender interact in daily power dynamics, oppression, and social movements.
Students gain valuable skills in critical analysis, research, writing, debate, and communication that apply across various fields.
As a unique Canadian program, GESJ fosters critical understanding of power structures while equipping students to challenge and transform them for greater equity. The curriculum connects with Social Welfare, Religious Studies, Political Science, and Philosophy, appealing to those interested in cultural studies, legal activism, global human rights, conflict resolution, social movements, colonial histories, feminist thought, postmodern theory, justice frameworks, and identity intersections.
Starting September 2015, the Bachelor of Education (BEd) became a two-year intensive program meeting Ontario's teacher certification standards. Applicants need an accredited undergraduate degree. The Schulich School of Education's demanding program requires dedication, student empathy, professional accountability, and intellectual engagement.
