Students accepted into the Concurrent Education degree program who successfully finish their Nipissing Honours degree, including all required Concurrent Education courses, by April's end will advance to Years 5 and 6 of the Bachelor of Education professional phase. All necessary courses for the Honours undergraduate degree and/or teachable subject prerequisites must be completed by May 1 of the transition year into BEd Year 5.
The History Department fosters an intimate learning environment within a collaborative academic community focused on creative teaching, innovative research, and scholarly excellence. Studying history enables you to contextualize yourself in different eras, develop critical thinking about global affairs, and cultivate empathy. Our program nurtures well-rounded individuals, equipping them with essential skills and a critically-aware worldview crucial for engaged citizenship in modern society.
We provide diverse undergraduate programs including an Honours Specialization, Concurrent Education pathway, and minor options. Our expertise spans state violence, genocide studies, international relations, conflict studies, Indigenous histories, oral history, gender studies, and global environmental history. Emphasizing personalized and hands-on learning, we offer specialized certificates in War, Atrocity, and Genocide studies. Our department maintains an active student community through the History Society and digital undergraduate journal, while involving undergraduates in faculty research projects. We feature a distinctive Orientation to our Master's in History program that creates experiential learning opportunities as a pathway to graduate studies.
