Geomatics refers to the field of study involving the collection, processing, analysis, and application of spatial data. This interdisciplinary science combines various technical fields to form a comprehensive understanding of Earth's surface and human interaction with it. Key areas within geomatics include land surveying, cartography, satellite imagery interpretation, GIS technology, and GPS navigation. According to the Canadian Institute of Geomatics (1999), this field integrates these components to produce clear representations of our environment. The Geomatics Certificate program equips students with expertise in GIS, satellite image analysis, digital mapping, and spatial statistics. This 18-credit certification is exclusively available for students enrolled in four-year Honors geography degree programs.
