Nipissing University offers four specialized streams: Policing, Corrections, Criminology, or Criminal Justice Studies. Our adaptable curriculum provides an ideal mix of academic knowledge and hands-on experience. Students engage in fieldwork, projects, and research collaborations with criminal justice practitioners.
The Criminology specialization teaches foundational theories and research methods in the discipline. Students develop crucial competencies in communication, statistical analysis, and critical thinking. Unique course offerings include specialized subjects such as Gender in the Justice System and Juvenile Justice.
Our emphasis on practical application, combined with extensive fieldwork opportunities, ensures graduates are highly employable. Alumni have secured positions with Correctional Services Canada, Ontario Provincial Police, RCMP's Anti-Fraud Center, and other agencies. Career paths include analyst roles, law enforcement positions, corrections work, and legal professions. Many pursue advanced degrees in law or graduate studies at MA/PhD levels.

Qualification Requirements

Official transcripts from all institutions (domestic or international) previously or presently attended, secondary schools, colleges and universities (Domestic and international applicants who have attended postsecondary institutions outside of North America must have their transcripts assessed. International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma with at least six subjects, including three at a higher level, with a minimum final grade of 24, will be considered for admission. Students who successfully complete the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma with a score of 24 or higher are eligible to receive up to 30 transfer credits, equivalent to one year of full-time study. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Applicants to all programs except Nursing require a minimum score of 83 (iBT) with a minimum score of 20 in reading, listening and writing, and a minimum score of 22 in speaking. International English Language Test Service (IELTS) : Applicants to all programs except Nursing require a minimum overall band score of 6.5 with a minimum 6 in reading, listening, speaking and writing.
