The Skilled Trades Techniques program lets you experience multiple trades before choosing a specialization. During the first year, you'll study four distinct trade areas including carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, welding, truck and transport, and marine diesel mechanics. You'll also develop fundamental skills like workplace safety, rigging and hoisting, tool usage, communication, math, and blueprint interpretation - all valuable across various trades.
In your second year, you'll focus on your selected trade, developing specialized expertise. This prepares you for a professional career in your chosen field. The program emphasizes hands-on training in workshop settings and includes a work placement in the second year. With strong demand for tradespeople across New Brunswick, many students receive job offers before completing their studies. Trying different trades is the best way to discover your ideal career path. At St. Andrews campus, second-year specializations include Carpentry, Electrical: Construction, Electrical: Industrial, Welding, or Marine Diesel Mechanics. Woodstock Campus offers Carpentry, Electrical: Construction, Welding & Metal Fabrication, Plumbing, or Truck & Transport Service Technician options for Year 2 students.
