The Drama Studies program offers comprehensive training in theater arts, exposing students to diverse aspects of the field such as performance, stagecraft, artistic direction, theatrical design, critical analysis, and playwriting. Through dramatic exploration, we gain fresh viewpoints, confront new ideas, and experience emotional resonance as our personal experiences and societal challenges are reinterpreted through artistic expression.
This academic program focuses on theatrical education rather than vocational preparation for professional theater careers.
The curriculum starts with foundational drama courses, progressing to specialized studies in: performance techniques, stage production, artistic direction, theatrical design
performance theory
theatrical texts
During their final year, Drama Studies majors undertake one or two capstone projects in their chosen specialization.
These projects enable collaboration with faculty advisors to develop and implement significant theatrical works in areas like playwriting, scenic design, stage direction, production management, or performance.
Our versatile Motyer-Fancy Theatre presents approximately ten annual productions, featuring student performers and crew, with creative leadership from both theater professionals and advanced students.
