Right from the start, Medical Laboratory Science students engage in a practical, team-based learning experience that mirrors real-world clinical laboratories. Michener's partnership with UHN enhances its mission to offer students state-of-the-art medical technology and direct exposure to professional clinical knowledge. The institution's labs feature modern instrumentation, such as automated analyzers, premium microscopes (including dual and five-headed models), and digital tools to enhance education. Multiple analyzers enable students to gain experience through both group work and individual practice.
This field merges advanced instrumentation and methodologies with theoretical understanding to conduct intricate tests on blood, tissue samples, and other bodily fluids. The discipline encompasses five specialized areas: Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Histotechnology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Science.
Medical laboratory technologists (MLTs) are skilled healthcare workers who conduct lab tests and, in certain settings, collect blood samples through phlebotomy. Their test results assist physicians in diagnosing conditions, determining treatments, and tracking or preventing illnesses.
