The English Department has consistently focused on education and scholarship in medieval and early modern studies, with faculty expertise spanning English literature and culture from the 9th to 17th centuries across multiple disciplines. Key research areas encompass Old English literature, medieval texts, manuscript analysis, both sacred and secular poetry, prose works, religious theater and public stage productions, Chaucer and Shakespeare studies, royal and civic celebrations, early printing traditions, and Reformation-era writings.

Master's degree in English Literature with minimum 80 percent in graduate courses
Prospective students should ensure that their scores are are in the Departments preferred ranges

at least 70 band score on MUNTEL for Writing
25-30 on the Writing component of the Internet-based TOEFL
50-68 on the Structure and Written Expression section of the paper-based TOEFL
7-9 on the Writing component on the IELTS Academic test
70-90 on the Writing component of the CAEL test
5 or higher on the Writing component of Can-TEST
