The English Department comprises 23 dedicated full-time faculty members who form a vibrant academic community, actively pursuing research, mentoring graduate students, and publishing literary works and scholarly articles. Our department's expertise is organized into ten specialized research clusters: American, Canadian, Colonial and Postcolonial, Creative Writing, Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century Studies, Environmental and Energy Humanities, Medieval and Early Modern Studies, Newfoundland and Labrador Studies, North Atlantic Studies, and Visual Narrative Studies. This wide-ranging scholarship creates a stimulating and collaborative atmosphere for everyone in our department, from professors to students.
PhD Program – The doctoral program includes coursework, comprehensive examinations, and a dissertation, typically requiring four years of full-time study to complete.

Graduate diploma: 1 year
MA: 1-2 years
PhD: 4 years

Application Deadline: January 15 for Fall semester enrollment
Applicants shall have completed Master's degree in English with minimum 80% in graduate courses.
The minimum English proficiency test scores are as follows:
TOEFL: An aggregate score of 80 (92 for graduate programs with higher English proficiency requirements).
IELTS Academic: An aggregate score of 6.5 (7 for graduate programs with higher English proficiency requirements).
Duolingo English Test: An aggregate score of 115 (125 for graduate programs with higher English proficiency requirements).
CAEL - A score between 50 and 60 in each of four bands, with at least 2 band scores of 60.
MET: A score of 59%.
PTE Academic - Minimum scores of 58 in each of reading, writing, listening, and speaking
