A Bachelor of Science degree typically requires four years of study. During your first year, you can apply for your preferred major program and optionally select a minor. The university offers a comprehensive selection of majors, minors, and combined programs, allowing you to explore your academic interests while building strong foundations for graduate studies or professional careers in your chosen field.

Biochemistry explores the chemical processes within living systems. This discipline integrates principles from biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, microbiology, and genetics to solve biological mysteries. Many undergraduate students participate in research opportunities through programs like Memorial University's Career Experience Program (MUCEP), Student Undergraduate Research Awards (SURA), and various summer research initiatives. Research areas for undergraduates include (but aren't limited to) zebrafish and sea urchin development, muscle biochemistry, lipid studies, and molecular dynamics. Beyond standard biochemistry majors and honors programs, students can pursue joint degrees in: behavioral neuroscience and biochemistry (B.Sc. honors), biochemistry with cell biology/microbiology (B.Sc. honors), biochemistry and chemistry (B.Sc. honors), or biochemistry and physics (B.Sc. honors).
