Archaeology examines human societies throughout history and across different regions by analyzing the physical evidence they've left behind. Our research focuses on diverse materials including human-made artifacts (such as tools and crafted objects), structural remains (like buildings, fire pits, and artwork), biological specimens (plant, animal, and human remains along with soil samples), as well as excavation sites and their surrounding environments.
The Archaeology Department offers hands-on learning experiences through classroom instruction, lab work, and field studies, equipping students with valuable knowledge and adaptable skills. We're enhancing our digital education programs with online courses and remote learning opportunities, enabling global participation from diverse backgrounds to explore various archaeological disciplines. Our cutting-edge facilities in applied archaeological sciences, environmental studies, conservation practices, and artifact examination connect students with research projects spanning from Northern Labrador to French Guiana and from Alaska to Northwest Europe.
