As Canada's inaugural program of its kind, this graduate-level midwifery initiative equips both domestic and international midwives with leadership capabilities, academic rigor, and specialized clinical competencies to enhance their professional impact. Addressing the worldwide demand for midwives to assume greater leadership in healthcare systems, the curriculum's foundational courses build upon key characteristics of advanced practitioners: independent practice, leadership acumen, specialized knowledge, and research proficiency. Through elective coursework, participants can cultivate targeted clinical abilities or deepen expertise in specific domains, while optional practical placements in clinical and leadership settings offer hands-on opportunities for professional growth. Alumni will emerge ready to excel as clinical leaders, educators, researchers, or specialists with advanced practice skills.
Students may choose between a coursework-focused path or a research-oriented thesis track. The thesis option requires full-time commitment, while the course-based alternative accommodates either full-time or part-time study. Utilizing a blended learning model that combines self-paced online modules, live virtual sessions, and in-person components, the program offers adaptable scheduling and enables students to complete most requirements remotely.
