Political theory explores the philosophical roots of political concepts, principles, systems, and structures. It analyzes fundamental ideas like authority, governance, fairness, equity, leadership, and civic organizations while critically evaluating the moral basis of modern societal and governmental frameworks.
Our department specializes in critical analysis, decolonial perspectives, postcolonial and anticolonial ideologies, nationalism and group identity theories, foundational political concepts, examinations of race, gender, and imperial systems, as well as critical approaches to globalism and international affairs. We welcome PhD research proposals in these and connected disciplines.
Students gain comprehensive training in both classical and modern political scholarship, with emphasis on cultivating essential abilities (logical analysis, problem-solving, written and verbal communication) and academic career preparation. We promote cross-disciplinary cooperation within and outside Political Science and actively support research projects that bridge multiple academic fields.
Admission to the PhD program will normally require a Master’s degree in political science with an average of at least an A– (A minus).
