McMaster stands among a select group of universities in Canada and worldwide that provide a PhD program in Comparative Public Policy. To thoroughly analyze and interpret policy developments and transformations, students receive training in comparative methodologies and must investigate a policy topic across at least two different political jurisdictions. These jurisdictions could be nation-states, or they might exist at regional or global levels.
Public policy addresses fundamental questions of resource allocation and benefit distribution. It can explore broad societal power structures or focus on intricate policy mechanisms and their results.
