Aspiring students passionate about music studies are invited to apply to Humanities I, where they can pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Music. This program doesn't require auditions. At our School of the Arts, we're transforming music education approaches. Although we've temporarily suspended admissions to the Music 1 program for September 2024, McMaster's Music program remains active as we focus on its renewal.
We're dedicated to reshaping the Music curriculum to eliminate obstacles, reflect contemporary musical trends, and leverage McMaster's unique advantages.
While we continue redesigning the Music program, current students in Music level 1 and various Music degree paths (including BMus, BMus in Music Cognition, BA in Music, and Combined Honours in Music with another subject) can complete their studies without disruption.
For those considering music studies in the future, our Bachelor of Arts with a music major offers comprehensive training in music history, performance, and theory, along with optional courses in music therapy, music cognition, conducting, and popular music. Students can also explore electives from other fields.
This audition-free pathway opens undergraduate music education to diverse students with varying musical backgrounds.
Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students are required to complete Grade 12 high school diploma equivalent to Canadian qualification.
Admission requires, as a minimum, completion of Music I, a Grade Point Average of at least 5.0, and an average of at least 5.0 in PSYCH 1X03 and PSYCH 1XX3.
