Dive into the world of mechanical engineering, covering everything from initial design to final construction of diverse physical systems and devices, while considering the profession's human impact and how engineering solutions shape society. Mechanical engineers work in cross-disciplinary teams, applying physics and mathematics principles to develop, research, design, produce, evaluate, regulate, and upkeep numerous mechanical systems. These encompass transportation vehicles, aircraft, energy facilities, medical implants, assistive technologies, and sustainable energy solutions.
The Materials Science and Engineering Department provides a shared foundational curriculum with five specialized study paths in upper-year levels. Students can fulfill their degree requirements by selecting courses from these elective streams:
Biomaterials
Data Analysis & Computational Materials
General Materials Science
Manufacturing & Infrastructure Materials
Intelligent Materials & Devices
Detailed technical elective options for each specialization can be found on the department's website. Please be aware that some stream courses might not run if enrollment numbers are insufficient.
Level II entrants should enroll in the Materials Science and Engineering program and adhere to the specified requirements. Upper-year students should follow the program guidelines from their Level II entry year's Undergraduate Calendar. These students are encouraged to review their degree audit and consult with the department for additional guidance.
The Engineering and Society program mandates at least 18 units of specialized elective courses (excluding the 6 units of Level I complementary studies electives).
Co-op participants must complete ENGINEER 1EE0 alongside standard academic requirements, with ENGINEER 2EC0 recorded for each four-month work term.
International Baccalaureate - High school transcript with predicted and or final IB grades. Final IB diploma results must be submitted to be considered for advanced credit. International Secondary School - High School transcript with interim and or final grades. If you are attending an international school that offers multiple curricula eg American GCE IB please ask your school to specify the curriculum in which you are enrolled and ensure that appropriate documents are submitted.
