Faith traditions play a fundamental role in human societies across history. The Society, Culture & Religion curriculum explores religion's profound impact on global affairs. Through interdisciplinary approaches, these programs investigate how diverse cultures, both past and present, grapple with life's deepest philosophical inquiries. Understanding religious and cultural systems provides crucial insights into current events at home and abroad.
These studies prepare graduates for professional challenges in numerous fields including legal practice, government, education, medicine, commerce, media, and community work. McMaster University provides extensive course options customized to each student's academic goals. Our faculty brings specialized knowledge from multiple disciplines such as Cultural Anthropology, Moral Philosophy, Ethical Studies, and Historical Research.
This academic variety supports our mission to develop analytical thinkers, socially aware individuals, and articulate professionals. Graduates earn combined honors in Religious Studies plus another discipline. Starting Fall 2019, all Religious Studies bachelor's degrees will adopt the new Society, Culture & Religion designation.
