The Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science offers a thorough exploration of political systems, equipping students with fundamental knowledge about different aspects of political governance. You'll examine domestic political frameworks, international affairs, electoral processes, activism, historical shifts, and other key topics, while developing essential abilities in critical analysis, reasoning, and communication.
Whether pursuing Political Science as your primary focus or studying it out of personal curiosity, our Department delivers an extensive and rigorous undergraduate program. This degree opens doors to diverse professional paths, including public service, media careers, campaign consulting, corporate public relations, and global institutions. Many alumni also continue their education in specialized areas like legal studies, social services, and teaching.
Undergraduates can get involved with our active McMaster Political Science Students Association (MPSSA) and take part in activities such as the yearly Model UN conference.
Introductory courses provide grounding in core political concepts, authority structures, and systems of governance. As you progress, you can focus on specific areas like Canadian government, cross-national political analysis, philosophical foundations of politics, policy development, or global diplomacy, shaping your academic journey to align with your aspirations. Complementary courses from other disciplines will expand your worldview, fostering an interdisciplinary understanding that deepens your grasp of social systems and strengthens your capacity to apply political science concepts across academic fields.
Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students are required to complete Grade 12 high school diploma equivalent to Canadian qualification.
This requires completion of any Level I program with a Grade Point Average of at least 5.0 including a grade of C or greater in one of POL SCI 1AA3 or 1AB3 or a grade of at least C in POL SCI 1G06 A/B.
