McMaster University's Greek & Roman Studies programs offer students diverse course options spanning history, archaeology, philology, and beyond.
The undergraduate curriculum mandates foundational courses in history, archaeology, and classical languages (Latin and/or Greek), preparing students for advanced academic pursuits.
Program participants can select courses from these specialized areas:
Ancient History and Society
Ancient Philosophy
Classical Archaeology and Art History
Classical Literature in Translation
Greek Language and Literature
Latin Language and Literature
After completing 60 units in an Honours Program, students may substitute some Level III coursework with approved international study programs, pending approval from both the Greek & Roman Studies Department and Humanities Associate Dean.
The department grants up to 6 units of credit for participation in authorized archaeological excavations and field projects.
Prospective graduate students should note that most universities require undergraduate Greek and Latin coursework for admission to advanced Greek & Roman Studies programs. Early enrollment in language courses and completion of the thesis course (GKROMST 4T03 AB) during final studies is highly recommended.
