The Bachelor of Arts in Economics is a rigorous three-year curriculum that delivers an extensive educational foundation, emphasizing key competencies and insights vital for economic comprehension. Though not designed for specific professions, it attracts a wide range of employers across industries.
Serving as a springboard for professional growth, the program introduces students to modern viewpoints on societal challenges like inflation, joblessness, government debt, fiscal policies, and sustainable economics. It sharpens analytical and structured reasoning—highly adaptable skills—and prepares learners for graduate-level education. While a BA allows for further studies in business, law, or public sector management, many now favor pursuing an Honours degree.
Additionally, the BA degree pairs effectively with one-year cooperative education programs in journalism, HR management, and supply chain operations. The unique Mohawk Business Studies Certificate, launched in 2012, provides Social Sciences students with specialized career advantages.
Alumni have succeeded in diverse positions, including legal practitioners, corporate executives, policy advisors, economic consultants, and wealth management specialists. Students can enhance employability by complementing their studies with electives like programming or professional writing, broadening their capabilities for greater career adaptability.
Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students are required to complete Grade 12 high school diploma equivalent to Canadian qualification.
Students start in the Social Sciences Level 1 program and apply to the Economics BA Program at the end of their first year. Students must complete the requirements of a Level 1 program including two Level 1 Economics courses.
Completion of any Level I program with a Grade Point Average of at least 3.5 and an average of at least 4.0 in ECON 1B03 and 1BB3.
